Who We Are
The Lake Havasu Museum of History has been a functioning museum since 2005, but the roots of our mission go far deeper into the early 1970’s. As the (still) blooming city of Lake Havasu was just beginning to stand, there was a group of locals who were not only in awe of the historical feats they were in the midst of, but also stepped up to the immense responsibility needed to be taken to preserve the heart of the growing community.
What began as shelves in garages and storage units of boxes blossomed into a fully operational Historical Society. In it, these devotees of “Havasu History” took time to carefully preserve large, historical statement items like McCulloch chainsaws, to the smallest and most obscure-yet-relevant items such as McCulloch Airlines branded disposable cutlery sets and even a real LP record that celebrated the historic London Bridge through song.
To outsiders, these items were mere promotional objects, but to those who raised their children, had their first jobs, and made personality-forming memories in Lake Havasu City, these items are sacred.
Now, we as an institution want to honor those who have put their hearts into the preservation efforts of our museum. We fully believe in the preciousness of our eclectic culture and want to continue to share these artifacts, photographs, and -most importantly- stories with future generations. This is not just the history of a small desert town. This is OUR history.
These items we hold deserve to be collected, archived, and preserved with care. Furthermore, we want to share this history with our community through comprehensive exhibitions, deep-dive education classes, and compelling programs & speakers.
