Austin was born in Logan, Utah but moved with his family to Lake Havasu City when he was four. He attended K-12 and community college in Lake Havasu. After he graduated from Mohave Community College with an Associates of Arts in Liberal Arts, he moved to Mesa, Arizona to finish a Bachelors degree in Mathematics with a minor in Philosophy at Arizona State University at Tempe.
While at Mohave Community College and Arizona State University, Austin worked as both a librarian (Hodel library at Mohave, Hayden and Noble libraries at ASU) and as a Math, English, and Computer Science tutor (both at Mohave and Mesa Community College). This gave Austin the ability to connect with a wide array of people from all walks of life, which eventually landed him in a few clubs and organizations at Mohave Community College. Austin has been a member of the Bighorn Decoders Computer Club, Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society Alpha Chi Chi chapter, Veterans Club, Student Art League, Student Activities Council, and was the founding president of the S.T.E.A.M club (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). He has held officer positions in each of these clubs, ranging from secretary to president and most roles in-between at various times. Additional involvements include being the Treasurer for the Mohave Community College Foundation to help foster scholarships within the college ecosystem. While working at Mesa Community College, Austin was apart of a specialized program to reach out to Native American S.T.E.M. students and help them get on track in their classes if they were deemed high risk of failing or dropping out.
Currently Austin works at the Hodel Library at Mohave Community College where he is actively involved in student life. He is currently in the welding program as a side activity and is looking to get more involved with communities outside of academia to bridge the gap between the college and the community.
